Somatic Experiencing (SE) Tania

SEP Touch Retreat 13th June

The first SEP (Assistant) Retreat hosted by Integrated Trauma Therapy

This gathering marks a significant first within the ITT community – a dedicated day created specifically to support and nourish SEP Assistants.

Grounded in the understanding that trauma recovery begins with safety, connection, and nervous system regulation, this inaugural gathering is an invitation to pause, come together, and be held within a supportive, body-centred space.

As SEP Assistants, you offer steadiness, attunement, and regulation every day – supporting others to find greater ease, coherence, and connection within themselves. This day is about turning toward your own nervous system, receiving care, and restoring the resources that make this work sustainable.

Why this first gathering matters

This first SEP Restorative Support Day has been created in response to a shared recognition within ITT:  that those who offer support also need intentional spaces to receive it.

This day sets a foundation – not as a one-off event, but as the beginning of a culture of mutual support, nourishment, and connection for SEP Assistants. It is a space to slow down, reconnect with your body, and experience being supported in community.

 What to expect

• A carefully held, nervous-system-aware container that prioritises safety, choice, and regulation
• Giving and receiving somatic touch practices offered as support, regeneration, and nourishment
• Opportunities for connection, reflection, and shared presence within the SEP community
• Learning gently woven throughout the day, grounded in embodied and trauma-informed principles.

We are honoured to welcome Alaine Duncan (The Tao of Somatic), who will join us live from the US to offer teachings that weave together Kathy Kains Touch Skills with concepts from Traditional Chinese Medicine, her Tao of Trauma. Alaine will be sharing her 5 element theory for us to practice – enriching this first gathering with depth, lineage, and integrative perspective.

Alaine Duncan is an acupuncturist and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner. She combines trauma neurobiology with acupuncture and Asian medicine, and is the author of The Tao Trauma: A Practitioner’s Guide for Integrating Five Element Theory and Trauma Treatment. She has led programs supporting veterans, caregivers, immigrants, and refugees, and is Chair of the National Capitol Area Chapter of Acupuncturists Without Borders.
